Will Republicans stop at nothing to show their lack of confidence and hate?

There is nothing they won't stoop to. I think it's because they have no actual ideas, no positive policies for the future of our country, so they have to use smears and other Rovian tactics to steal elections from good candidates who do have positive ideas.
