Can I help fix a nest that has been knocked over?

We have a House Finch nest on a beam about 8 feet high under out carport and this morning it was tipped on its side and the two eggs broke. I don't know if predators got to it or if birds were just fighting over it. I flipped the nest back upright, but can I do anything to secure the nest better so it doesn't happen again? I heard you can try to relocate the nest to a nearby place predators can't get to - like a hanging pot or a tall pole, but I don't know if I should try moving it - even if it's just a foot or two. Help!
