Why do we bother with elections, wouldnt it be better if CEOs from the top companies chose Congress themselves?

All the politicians work for them but tell us different lies to get elected. Whether it's promising token reforms and social welfare while failing to deliver like the Democrats, or playing on your religious convictions and xenophobia like the Repubs (unless you are a true believer that thinks everything will get better as long as the rich get richer, then they don't have to do much to convince you) so what's the point of this charade? Why isn't the Tea Bag Party trying to do something about electoral reform, instead of taking orders from Armey, Newt Gingrich and Fox News to keep the business oligarchy right where they are? Why did millions of youthful idealists volunteer their time and efforts to elect a meek centrist who never took a firm stand on anything?
